LTA4H is a bifunctional zinc metalloenzyme with dual epoxide hydrolase (EH) and aminopeptidase
activities. Its EH activity converts LTA4 to the pro-inflammatory leukotriene B4 (LTB4), while its
aminopeptidase activity cleaves N-terminal arginines and inactivates the neutrophil chemoattractant
Pro-Gly-Pro (PGP), thereby exhibiting both pro- and anti-inflammatory roles. Additionally, it participates
in the biosynthesis of anti-inflammatory resolvins (E1 and 18S-resolvin E1) from eicosapentaenoic acid,
highlighting its complex regulatory role in inflammation resolution.
